Pickup Day Guide.
Congratulations on your winning bids. This guide explains what to expect, what to bring, and how to prepare for a smooth ESBJ pickup day.
Pickup day is easier when you arrive prepared.
Pickup is the moment your auction wins start their next chapter. A little planning helps keep the process quick, organized, friendly, and safe for every winning bidder.
1. Before Pickup Day Arrives
A successful pickup starts before you arrive on-site.
After the auction closes, winning bidders receive important pickup details and instructions. Please review your email, invoice, auction terms, and any pickup notes carefully so there are no surprises on pickup day.
Your winner notification or invoice includes the items you won, pickup details, and any special instructions for that auction.
Pickup windows are scheduled in advance and are firm. Add the date and time to your calendar as soon as possible.
For furniture or large items, measure the item, your vehicle, doorways, hallways, and the final space where it will go.
Address privacy: For security, exact pickup addresses are shared only with winning bidders. General pickup areas may be visible publicly, but full pickup instructions are winner-only.
2. What to Bring on Pickup Day
Showing up prepared makes pickup quick, easy, and stress-free. Use this checklist before you leave home.
Bring a valid photo ID so the ESBJ team can verify the correct winning bidder or authorized pickup person.
Have your invoice or winner notification ready. Digital on your phone is perfectly fine.
Bring a vehicle large enough for everything you won. Please do not assume large pieces will fit in a small car.
Bring a friend, family member, or hired mover for heavy furniture, appliances, mirrors, boxes, tools, or bulky items.
Packing and loading supplies
Boxes, bins, and totes for small lots, loose items, and household goods.
Bubble wrap, newspaper, or packing paper for glass, china, décor, and fragile items.
Moving blankets or padding to protect furniture and your vehicle during transport.
Tie-down straps, rope, or bungee cords for trucks, trailers, and open vehicle loads.
Basic tools and gloves in case an item needs simple disassembly or careful handling.
3. Important: We Do Not Assist With Moving or Loading
Please arrive prepared with your own help, vehicle, tools, and supplies. The ESBJ team helps check in bidders, verify invoices, direct buyers, locate items, and keep pickup organized. Buyers are responsible for moving, carrying, packing, loading, and transporting their purchases.
We want to be clear because this is one of the most common surprises for first-time bidders. Pickup days are busy, with many winning bidders arriving during a short window. Our team must stay focused on check-in, item location, buyer flow, pickup organization, and questions.
What this means for you
From the moment your items are located, getting them safely into your vehicle is your responsibility.
Large furniture, appliances, tools, mirrors, books, and china can be much heavier than expected.
For large, valuable, or difficult pieces, professional movers can protect both the item and your vehicle.
Some pieces may need simple disassembly to fit through doors, halls, stairs, or into your vehicle.
Helpful planning options: consider a local mover, Dolly, Lugg, TaskRabbit, a U-Haul, a Home Depot truck rental, a pickup truck, or trusted friends and family for larger items.
4. What to Expect When You Arrive
Pickup day should feel organized and simple. Here is the general flow most winning bidders can expect.
Arrive Within Your Scheduled Window
Showing up outside the published pickup hours may mean the team cannot assist you. Pickup windows are planned around staffing and property access.

The team will help guide you to the items you won. Items may be organized by bidder, invoice, lot number, or pickup area.

Pack and Load
Use your supplies to wrap fragile items, protect furniture, secure your load, and move your purchases safely.
Head Home With Your Finds
Once your items are loaded and checked out, you are ready to go enjoy your new treasures.
5. Pickup Day Etiquette
ESBJ pickup days are meant to be friendly, organized, and neighborly. These simple guidelines help keep the process smooth for every winning bidder.
Arrive during your scheduled pickup window so the team can keep the day moving efficiently.
Pickup days can get busy. The team works as quickly as possible while staying organized.
A friendly attitude toward staff and fellow bidders helps keep the pickup experience positive.
Take packing trash with you and do not leave unwanted items behind at the pickup location.
The pickup area is for confirmed winning bidders. Items you did not win are not available for on-site shopping.
Pickup locations can include heavy items, stairs, narrow spaces, and hazards. Please supervise children closely.
6. What If You Cannot Make Pickup?
Life happens, but pickup deadlines are important.
If you know in advance that you cannot make your scheduled pickup window, contact ESBJ as soon as possible. Depending on the auction, the location, and the timeline, the team may be able to discuss options before the pickup deadline.
Contact ahead of time: waiting until after pickup has ended makes it much harder to help. Reach out early by email, phone, or support text.
Can someone else pick up for you?
Yes, in many cases someone else can pick up on your behalf if you notify ESBJ in advance and provide the required information.
The authorized person should bring their own photo ID.
They should have a copy of your invoice or winner notification.
You should send ESBJ their full name and contact information before pickup.
A short written authorization by text or email may be requested.
Missed pickup warning: Items not picked up by the published deadline may be considered abandoned according to the auction terms. No refunds are issued for missed pickup, and items may become the property of ESBJ. Please review each auction’s specific terms and contact ESBJ immediately if a true emergency comes up.
7. Special Items: Vehicles, Large Furniture, Jewelry, Tools & Oddities
Some auction wins require extra planning. Always read the lot description and pickup notes carefully before bidding and again before pickup.
Plan transportation, title requirements, registration responsibilities, and any documents needed for transfer.
Measure carefully, bring a truck or van, use moving blankets, and bring enough help to carry safely.
Bring a safe bag, pouch, or small box. Photo ID is especially important for high-value pickups.
Tools, books, and workshop lots can be surprisingly heavy. Bring bins, gloves, and a strong vehicle.
As-is reminder: Estate items are typically pre-owned, used, vintage, or unique. Please inspect photos, descriptions, and terms carefully before bidding.
8. Final Helpful Reminders
Before pickup day, review this quick final checklist.
Items are sold as-is. Please inspect your items before loading.
Once accepted at pickup, all sales are final according to auction terms.
Refunds are not available for buyer’s remorse, change of mind, size issues, or fit issues at home.
Take every item you won. Partial pickups are not allowed unless ESBJ has approved something in writing.
